New year, new love...

This is my cousin with his new wife. Well, they've been married for a while now but this is the first time most of us have met her so she's new to us. She's lots of fun and so is he so they make a great couple! I love this shot because it was a candid moment in between the posed shots we did for the family.

Help me choose!

I live in a rural midwest town and they have a photography contest yearly that I would like to enter. I have chosen 10 shots that I think would work well for this, I have others that are favorites of mine, but I think these are my shots that would most suit this contest. I'll number them, tell me your two favorites. Any comments are welcome!

Happy New Year!

So, with the new year comes new paths for my photography and life. I doubt I'll be posting every day or much at all anymore as I feel like I accomplished what I wanted with the 365 challenge. I wanted to focus on my photography and take pictures every day, and I did! I still do, almost every day. I learned a great deal, which was something important to me, and I don't think I would have learned so much without the challenge. But, I have found the process of having to do it and find something new and interesting every day becoming tedious. I don't really feel bad about this, when I talked to my photography forum friends most of them agree that a whole year is nearly impossible and many of them felt they got a lot out of of similar challenges, even if they didn't make it the whole year.

BUT, it's not over, I just don't want to feel the need to find a shot when I may not have the time or I'm working on something else, like editing a shoot for a client. Then I feel like I'm just taking a shot of something random instead of something meaningful, just to get something posted.

What I would like to do, however, is start the new year with a poll for some shots that I'm considering entering in a contest this spring in our little town. I'll make a separate post for that!

I know I haven't been great about posting but here's something from my photo shoot yesterday.

Happy Solstice!

I took these WELL after midnight, so they are today's shot! The clouds were bad last night, I actually went to bed thinking I would miss it, but Rey called me a little after midnight and when I went to check, I realized that about every 5-10 minutes, there would be a small break in the clouds and I could see the eclipse briefly! I dawned my coat, boots, tripod, and a chair and spent the next couple hours outside waiting for rare glimpses of the moon. I didn't get to see it at full eclipse because of the clouds, but I caught a few shots when there was a break! Here are a couple:

The biggest town around...

Yup, we really do live out in the middle of nowhere! I dream of taking night cityscapes, but for now, I'll have to do with the biggest town in the area, up on a hill. LOL

Black & white morning

I had a really nice morning shooting. I took my camera with me on my petsits, thinking maybe I could shoot another lovely sunrise and alas, there was no sunrise! Well, I'm sure there was, but it was behind a layer of clouds. I stopped quite a few times to take pictures and just really enjoyed the quiet morning to myself. Here are a few of the shots I took:

I love the animal prints in this one, it looks like someone was going in circles and confused! LOL

If you are easily offended, don't look too close at this one. I've been coveting this shot for a long time and revisited it this morning and think I was fairly successful at getting some feeling out of this. There's something that I like about the harshness of the graffiti and the cold beauty of nature behind it.
